Another LUF

Dr. S called last night (bless that man; he called after 9:30 and apologized for the late call as it was a "long day at the office"). Sheesh. I told him it wasn't a problem!!!

I had another LUF. Dr. S said the follicle grew to a mature size faster this time than last cycle, so the scan on 2/27 was later than needed to catch it. Next month, I'll start scans a few days earlier, start the Cytotec earlier and will also take the HCG trigger shot. I told DH he was going to administer it! :) I got allergy shots for years so I'm not all that concerned. Plus... it seems that for some of you the HCG trigger shot led to very positive results, right? :)

It makes me wonder though... 2 cycles in a row, both stimulated... have I ever ovulated?? And why on earth do my cycles appear to be "normal" if they're anovulatory???

  1. I am sorry about another LUF :( I will find out next week if I am experiencing another LUF as well. Let's fight this together! I heard good things and bad things about the trigger shots, but it is worth a try!

  2. Stupid LUF! :(

I'm thinking that the next thing I'm going to ask for is a trigger shot. I haven't had one since starting Napro, and I definitely think that it's worth a try!

  3. Ugh! I'm so sorry about the LUF!

So, if I understand an LUF correctly, it acts just like a regular, ruptured follicle except the egg doesn't actually make it out - so, there is still the estrogen, LH, and FSH build up pre-ovulation and then a corpus luteum to produce progesterone after, so it makes sense that your cycles would appear normal because the hormones are still doing their "thing". I could be wrong, but I think this is why they are so tricky :(.

Dr. S. is amazing! (You already know that though :).)

There have been a few HCG trigger shots followed by BFPs lately :).

    Sending prayers your way!

  4. Is there any way to tell if you developed a LUF without the scans? Does AF start or do they have to give you something to make it start? I've been worried about them, hence the questions.

    1. Hi Ania... I truly don't know. Rebecca's explanation helped. AF always arrives on time (even when I wasn't taking the Estradiol & Prometrium); I've never needed anything to get it to start. I don't know if Dr. S suspected this was happening when he ordered the scans. I have very regular cycles, with normal CM build-up, etc. And a normal "flow" once AF arrived. Nothing to indicate an LUF, from my charting, as far as I can tell. Sorry I can't be more help! Are you going to get the scans done too?

  6. I always suspected I had LUFs. My chart (BBT/Mucus pre-Creighton) would indicated I *might* have ovulated and pretty late in my cycle... but my blood work would say otherwise. I would have a good (well, good for me) mucus pattern and my temp would rise. My doctor thought that my follies might have spent so much time getting ready and then nothing would really happen. I had extended days of 'positives' on ovulation predictor kits, which can indicate that the body is really trying to ovulate, but it just might not be happening. So frustrating!! For the cycle we conceived, I used femara to get those follicles mature (I don't think my body knew how to do that on it's own!) and then used a trigger shot. I can't be certain, but I'm almost positive it was the first real ovulation I had our entire marriage! Again.... can't be sure... but that's my gut feeling. I'll be praying for you!!!!

  7. I'm sorry about the LUF. The comments here sound very positive for trigger shots, so that sounds like a good next step. Praying for comfort and clarity along this journey for you. (hugs)

  8. Jenny's story is so inspiring. Praying that the trigger shot gets those follies moving!
